Chickpea Masala Recipe

This was once one of my favorite recipes to share with friends. It stretches really far without breaking the bank and is so tasty. The coconut makes the dish feel really luxurious, so don’t cheap out on it. It is one of the main factors of this recipe. All in all, this recipe can be ready in 35 minutes, most of which is cooking time.

  • 1 ½ tsp Brown Mustard Seeds
  • 1 ½ tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 TB Coconut Oil
  • 2 Cups Diced Onion
  • 2 TB Minced Garlic
  • 2 TB Minced Ginger
  • 1 Can Chopped Tomato
  • 2 Cans Chickpeas
  • 1 Can Coconut Milk
  • 1 Cup Water
  • ¼ Cup Tamari
  • 1 ½ tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 ½ tsp Ground Coriander
  • 1 tsp Ground Cardamon
  • 1 Tsp Ground Cumin
  • ½ tsp Thyme
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper
  • ½ tsp Ground Cloves

Heat the seeds in a large pot without oil until they begin to pop over a medium-high heat.

Add onion, oil, garlic and ginger and cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

Add tomato and cook for 5 more minutes. Add remaining ingredients and cook at a simmer for 25 minute.

Pair with your favorite rice dish or try cauliflower rice.
